Russells Construction has kicked 2010 off to a great start with the addition of value
retail giant Lidl to its client list. Lidl has appointed the Trafford-based contractor
to build a 14,000 sq ft store in Mold, North Wales.
Boosting its credentials in the new build retail sector, Russells Construction secured
the contract following a competitive tender and project delivery is due for the summer.
Managing director Andrew Russell is delighted to have secured this much sought after
tender and to have added Lidl to its growing list of retail clients. He said: "Retail
construction has traditionally been a strong area for us and we have a string of high
profile clients in this sector so had the right credentials for this tender application
"Following a rigorous selection process and a cost-competitive bid, we were successfully
awarded the project which is a fantastic achievement for all those involved. We look forward
to working closely with the Lidl project management team on the delivery of this scheme and
will hopefully build a good relationship with Lidl for the future."
The complex construction programme involves raising site levels to comply with planning
regulations. To that end, more than 10,000 tons of recycled stone material will be imported
from a nearby quarry which reuses materials from demolished buildings. A series of pipes set
into the foundations will funnel excess water into storage tanks connected to the main drain
in order to prevent flooding.
The build itself incorporates vibro-piling the foundations before the construction of a simple
steel frame structure, with a pitched roof and finished in blockwork.
Russells Construction also lists Aldi, B&Q, Pizza Hut, Harry Ramsden, Currys and Carpet
Right among its high-profile retail client base.
