RUSSELLS WINS GOLD FOR COMMITMENT TO STAFF SAFETY

Russells Construction has been recognised for its dedication to health and safety with the RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Gold award. The organisation has acknowledged the firm's exceptional commitment towards protecting the health and well-being of its employees through safe practice both on site and at its Trafford Park headquarters.

This is the second year that Russells Construction has entered, going one better than the Silver award the company won in 2009. The honour will be presented at a prestigious ceremony at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham on Wednesday 12th May.

Gareth Russell, construction director for Russells, said: "It is a huge privilege to receive the RoSPA Gold Award. We recognise the importance of having strong safety management systems in place and, as we set the bar high, were disappointed not to have achieved Gold last year. We are delighted to have successfully met the criteria for the top award this year, demonstrating to both customers and contractors our determination to always meet the very highest of standards.

"As a company we are committed to continual corporate and individual development, in order to further enhance the quality of service we can offer to clients. We have achieved excellence in health and safety performance by creating an environment in which employees feel safe and well educated on health and safety within the work place."

The RoSPA Awards scheme is designed to push health and safety management up the agenda in a bid to reduce the number of accidents and cases of ill-health at work - and thereby the number of days lost to absence. All Russell employees receive health and safety training, which contributes towards helping the company develop a fully informed and protected workforce.

David Rawlins, RoSPA's awards manager said: "Russells Ltd has shown a commitment to protecting its employees, and others, through a number of health and safety measures. Organisations which do this deserve to have such dedication recognised and that's where the RoSPA awards come in.

"As well as there being clear ethical reasons and legal requirements for good health and safety management, there is also a strong business case. RoSPA is delighted to publicly honour organisations which have demonstrated their work to improve performance in this sphere."
