Russells Construction to deliver Eastbank

Partnership with MSCD for Ancoats regeneration

Russells Construction has commenced work on a £8.6m contract for Manchester Ship Canal Developments. The project, to build 108 properties at Eastbank off Great Ancoats Street, is the latest phase of a scheme to provide more than 500 new homes for the area, part of the new Ancoats Urban Village. The scheme will include 79 new-build apartments and 29 mews properties, providing accommodation for a range of buyers, from couples and young professionals to families and downsizers. The development will incorporate two separate buildings - Mews and Cube – with properties due to come to market later in the summer.

Around 100 construction specialists and suppliers will be working on site during the 14-month build programme and the scheme will be delivered in two phases.

Andrew Russell, managing director of Russells Construction, is delighted to have been chosen as MSCD's construction partner and to have the chance to breathe new life into the project. He said: "The regeneration of the Ancoats area is an exciting and ambitious scheme and it's great to be involved.

The project provides an opportunity not only for Russells Construction but also many within our supply chain, which is of course welcome. I'm very pleased to be working on this joint venture with both Peel and Manchester City Council - through Manchester Ship Canal Developments - to continue the regeneration of this area."

MSCD – a partnership between Peel Holdings and Manchester City Council - has already invested £35m into the regeneration of the area. The scheme, which is aimed at providing local people with good quality housing, has been granted £5m funding from the Homes and Communities Agency. James Whittaker, development director for Peel Land and Property, said the grant would kickstart the next phase of regeneration in Ancoats. He said: "We're pleased to welcome Russells Construction on board and look forward to working with them to deliver this project. High quality housing is a vital part of the mix in order to successfully bring people back to live in Ancoats, thereby attracting further inward investment and creating new employment opportunities. Creating a sustainable development which meets the needs of local residents demands not only provision for workers and young professionals, but attracting families back to the area which is why we believe the construction of both town houses and apartments will prove a very popular addition to the area."
